Jamiroverse
2021 | tsb Game maker | the sandbox
is a Metaverse experience made for The Sandbox platform by our team at Hermit Crab Studio. Jamiroverse is a hub world that will connect to the other Jamiroquai's experiences.
THE IDEA
was to bring the player to the world of Jamiroquai, a very Funky Colorful and Crazy Festival, in the middle of a desert in floating space.
The land is a huge homage to Jaykay's legacy, and a gift to it's fans, and to celebrate that we wanted to bring to life some of it's most iconic moments, musics and lyrics, some pretty obvious and some very obscure for only it's greatest fans do understand.

My Responsibilities on the Project:
- Documentation on the level and progression;
- From Level Maping to Level Decoration in engine;
- Requisition of Assets, props and NPCs to the Art Team;
- Research themes and references;
- Develop the experience level, from sketches and mapping all the way to the grayboxing;
My Goals:
- It was my first Hub, soasking for help and learning with the Seniors was n° 1 Goal;
- Give a Monumental vibe despite it's small size;
- Use alot of vertical space while letting the player to be able to teleport back to the top and jump wherever we wanted;
- Bring this Y2K feeling, with a festival in the desert, colorful sports cars and analogic white technology;

THE LEVEL
as a hub world with dimension limitations (The Sandbox Land has a maximum dimension depending on the Land size), I had to work smart, the plan was for the Hub to be a two part vertical land, in the bottom a canion with buildings and expositions and on top a floating plateau with the festival, the middle ground connecting those two parts as a rainbow stairway and som elevators maintaing the player flow of movement.

PLAYER'S FLOW
Talking about Flow of movement, we planned the level so the player would always circle back to the festival, but also some teleporters, since the festival is on high ground, from it the player can simply jump if he wants to go to the canion, the entire hub was made around making the player jump from a crazy place to another.
Also the level has some quests, we used two of those (The Hats and the Signs quests) to estimulate the player to explore the land and visit some of the landmarks.
What do I LEarned?
Jamiroverse was my first Hub world and my first level for a HUGE brand, i got a lot of feedback from my Lead at the time, and it taught me a lot about the process of making a Hub.
With this project, I learned how to create a production for an "open-world", and how to work and guide the player in an open space only by using landmarks and cool locations and trusting that he will go to places that awaken the curiosity of him.
Last but not least, I discovered that Jamiroquai has some bangers.
